Sixteen popular dress-and-tuxedo pairings grouped by Mt. Fuji scenery: the blue lakeshore, the flower fields, fresh green, and autumn colour or snow.
At Mt. Fuji the background is enormous, so the colours of the dress and the tuxedo change the mood of a photo more than anywhere else. The blue of lake and sky, the colours of the flower fields, fresh green, a snow-capped mountain: which scene you stand in front of changes which colours suit you. Here are sixteen of WEDDING AVENUE's most popular dress-and-tuxedo pairings, grouped by the Mt. Fuji scenery each one suits.
About the photos: these photos show the colour and feel of each outfit. They were taken in our studios and at other locations, not at Mt. Fuji.
Colours that suit each scene
Because the background colours at Mt. Fuji are so distinct, deciding whether you want your outfits to blend with the scene or stand out from it makes choosing much easier.
| Scene | Main background colours | Outfits that work |
|---|---|---|
| Lake Yamanaka shore and boardwalk | Blue lake and sky, white sand | Black, white, resort-style fabrics |
| Hana no Miyako flower fields | Seasonal flower colours | Soft pinks and beiges, or a colour that contrasts with the flowers |
| Fresh green and the willow path | Young leaves, dappled light | Green, brown, earth tones |
| Autumn colour and a snow-capped Fuji | Reds and yellows, white snow | Ivory, navy, bordeaux |
For the lakeshore and the boardwalk
The shore of Lake Yamanaka is a wide expanse of blue. Pairings with few colours stand out cleanly against it.

Black dress × black tuxedo
Both in black, for a fashion-forward look. Against the blue of the lake or the white of snow, black stands out sharply and the beauty of the silhouettes is what remains in the photo. For couples who want something unlike anyone else's.

Soft mermaid × white linen tuxedo
A body-skimming soft mermaid dress with a white linen tuxedo, light and easy. Walking the sandy shore or the boardwalk, it has the brightness of a resort.

Lace dress × black check tuxedo
A sheer lace dress with a black check tuxedo, a slightly relaxed pairing. It suits the natural, unposed shots, sitting side by side on the boardwalk.

Black dress × ivory tuxedo
Monochrome with the colours swapped: bride in black, groom in ivory. The simple palette leaves Mt. Fuji's presence intact while looking effortlessly stylish.
For the flower fields
The fields at Hana no Miyako Park change colour with the season. Soft colours blend with the flowers; a contrasting colour makes the outfit stand out among them.

Full A-line × khaki tuxedo
The classic A-line dress with a khaki tuxedo. Khaki connects with the green leaves of the fields, so it sits naturally in the season of yellow mustard flowers and sunflowers.

Smoky pink × denim tuxedo
A muted pink dress with a denim tuxedo, a casual pairing. Set against the blue nemophila or the pink flowers of spring, the colours connect gently.

Pink dress × black tuxedo
A sweet pink dress sharpened by the groom's black. Not too sugary, it keeps a grown-up feel even in the middle of the flowers.

Brown-beige × blue tuxedo
A skin-toned brown-beige dress with a vivid blue tuxedo. The blue answers the sky, so on a clear day in the fields the photo feels fresh and bright.
For fresh green and the willow path
The willow path at the park and the woods by the lake wrap you in green. Earth tones that get on well with green give natural photos in which you and the scenery become one.

Matching moss green
Both in moss green for a unified look. Among fresh leaves the outfits and the scenery flow into each other, calm but unmistakably yours.

Empire line × black tuxedo
An empire-line dress flows from below the bust to the hem and sways softly with every step. It suits walking shots on the dappled path, and the black tuxedo keeps the whole look refined.

Almond green × black tuxedo
A pale almond-green coloured dress is made for the season of young leaves. The groom's black tightens the composition so the photo does not fade into the green.

Brown dress × brown tuxedo
A warm pairing in matching browns. It sits naturally with wood, tree trunks and the boardwalk, and works in any season.
For autumn colour and a snow-capped Fuji
In autumn the background is red and golden foliage; in winter a snow-covered mountain. Against strong scenery, calm colours such as ivory and navy look composed and elegant.

Classic off-the-shoulder × ivory tuxedo
An off-the-shoulder dress that flatters the neckline, with a soft ivory tuxedo: a classic pairing. It harmonises with the white of a snow-capped Fuji for an elegant photo in crisp winter air.

Casual off-the-shoulder × black formal
A soft off-the-shoulder dress with a black formal tuxedo. Among golden autumn trees the white of the dress and the black of the groom stand out cleanly.

Slender line × bordeaux check tuxedo
A clean slender-line dress with a bordeaux check tuxedo. The colour connects with autumn foliage for a photo full of the season.

Embroidered A-line × navy tuxedo
A richly embroidered A-line dress with a navy tuxedo. Navy pairs easily with a clear winter sky and balances classic and contemporary.
How outfit selection works
On the dress plan of the Mt. Fuji tour you choose a wedding dress or a coloured dress, and a tuxedo. Fittings are held at the studio in Japan, or at any of our seven studios if you are staying elsewhere; we can also advise online before you travel. The collection varies a little between studios, so if a pairing here catches your eye, mention it when you enquire and we will arrange it. The full collection is on the Dress & Kimono page, and the seasons are compared in When to take Mt. Fuji pre-wedding photos.

Questions about outfits
Should the dress and tuxedo match in colour?
Matching gives unity; contrasting colours make each of you stand out. Decide with our stylist according to the season and the scenery you are shooting in.
Can we wear a wedding dress and a coloured dress on the same day?
On the Mt. Fuji + Location Photo plan you can choose two dresses, a wedding dress and a coloured dress, or two of either.
Where is the fitting?
At the studio in Japan where you have your consultation, usually the departure studio in Yokohama or Nagoya. We can advise online beforehand.
Can we bring our own outfits?
Yes, at no charge. Tell us in advance so we can plan the dressing time.
The same mountain asks for different colours at the lake, in the fields, in fresh green and in snow. Picture the season and the scene, and find the pairing that is yours. For a kimono, see 18 iro-uchikake kimono for Mt. Fuji. The plan is on the tour page.
